A virtual guided tour of Vienna, Part 15, The Mölker Bastei II
Dear James,
This is a view from the fourth floor of the Pasqualatihaus on the Mölkerbastei. To the right one can see the building where the famous Carlos OPEC hostage crisis of December 1975 took place and straight ahead is the University building, designed by Heinrich Ferstel and built between 1873 and 1884.
Ferstel “was born in Vienna on July 7, 1828, the son of the bank clerk Ignaz Ferstel and Antonia Anna Stache. He studied at the Polytechnic (today Technical University) and at the Academy of Fine Arts with the architect and master builder Carl Roesner (1804-69), the pioneer of romantic historicism in Vienna, as well as with Eduard van der Nüll and August Sicard von Sicardsburg. During the 1848 Revolution he served with the 4th Company of the Academic Legion. After his studies he worked from 1851-53 in the architecture office of his uncle Fritz Stache (1814-1895). As early as 1855 he won the competitive tender for the Votive Church. He completed this prestigious project by 1879, placing him at the forefront of Ringstrasse architects at a young age.”[1]
In the distance one can see the spires of the Votive Church (Votivkirche), which was so admired by Chekov when he visited Vienna. It was built out of gratitude on the part of the Kaiser after he survived an assassination attempt (he was saved by his adjutant: Maximilian Karl Lamoral Graf O’Donell von Tyrconell and a butcher named Josef Ettenreich (subsequently: Ritter von Ettenreich) in February 1853.
According to Webster Tarpley the revolutions of 1848, which Ferstel participated in and which led directly to the raising of the city walls, were part of a bigger picture.
“Remember that in the world outside of Europe at this point (1815), the British dominate. They rule the seas, their only significant challenge coming from the United States…”
“This is the Europe that you associate with Metternich, Prince Metternich, the guy who was ruling here in Vienna at that time, the chief minister of the Hapsburg Court. This is the Europe of the Holy Alliance. It is a condominium in which the British are obliged to co-exist with Metternich and the kinds of Central European oligarchs that he represents. Metternich is a very, very ugly figure, needless to say. The British are forced to deal with him almost as an equal. However, what you see – and this I think is a characteristic of the period – [is that] after about 1820 the British begin to drop out of the Congress of Vienna system. They stop going to the congresses; they stop signing the declarations; rather, what they do is to assume a position of splendid isolation and at the same time foment revolutions against all of their alleged allies on the continent of Europe. And in particular, the names of Mazzini, Karl Marx, Bakunin, the First International Workingmen’s Association, plus all of the French socialists – Louis Blanc, Fourier, and all these other people – [all these constitute] a society of British agents for the destabilization of Metternich and company on the continent of Europe…”
“…There are a lot of very good people active in 1848, but the general thrust of the British policy is clearly [that] the British were destabilizing Austria, Russia, and Prussia for balance of power purposes.”
“Let me show you what happened in 1848, in case people have forgotten this. Basically, every government in Europe was overthrown. The French July monarchy in the person of bourgeois King Louis Philippe of Orleans was overthrown in favor of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, a British agent and adventurer. Every government in Italy was overthrown; in particular, Mazzini succeeded in creating his Roman republic, and in forcing the pope to flee from Rome. Metternich himself was forced to flee from a revolution in Vienna; you had Kossuth in Hungary; every government in Germany was overthrown – not necessarily the monarch, but certainly the prime ministers; similar things in Spain, and so forth. The only country that escaped this was Russia, where there was no internal revolution.”
“With one fell swoop, the British had succeeded in overthrowing every government on the continent of Europe, in particular forcing Metternich to disguise himself as an Englishman and flee to London.”[2]
Were the British behind both the attack on the Kaiser in 1853 and the attack on OPEC in 1975? Possibly. Both were ultimately “Deep State” events, which it would be interesting to investigate in greater detail.
Around the corner from the Mölkerbastei is the Palais Ephrussi that features in the intriguing book: “The Hare with Amber Eyes” by Edmund de Waal, which I regard as yet another piece of Zionist propaganda. That it comes out of England shouldn’t surprise; Zionism has always been an Anglo-American creation.
Palmerston wrote in 1840: “There exists at the present time among the Jews dispersed over Europe, a strong notion that the time is approaching when their nation is to return to Palestine... It would be of manifest importance to the Sultan to encourage the Jews to return and settle in Palestine because the wealth which they would bring with them would increase the resources of the Sultan’s dominions; and the Jewish people, if returning under the sanction and protection, and at the invitation of the Sultan, would be a check upon any future evil designs of Mehemet Ali (of Egypt) or his successor... I have to instruct Your Excellency strongly to re-commend (to the Turkish Government) to hold out every just encouragement to the Jews of Europe to return to Palestine.”[3]
And in 1844 came Mordecai M. Noah’s “Discourse on the Restoration of the Jews”: “Noah’s object seems to be to excite the American Christians, and especially the ladies and gentlemen belonging to the various conversion societies to unite in a plan, to urge upon the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire to allow the Jews to hold land in Syria, and then to aid all those who may be willing to emigrate thither with the requisite means to establish themselves there as an independent and republican people. We are not bold enough to hazard the assertion that such a plan is absolutely impracticable, or that it is altogether opposed to Scripture to encompass in the manner indicated, the primary restoration of the Jews. Besides it would appear from the letter from Jurburg…that many of our people living under the iron sway of Russia, ardently desire the consummation of some project of the kind. But we apprehend, that the difficulty will not be found with the Turkish government, which has latterly, since the accession of Abdul Medjid to the throne, and since the persecution at Damascus, granted the Jews an equality of rights, (at least it was so stated in the papers of the day,) with other Rajahs or non-Mussulman inhabitants, which equality we presume, includes the right of holding real estate.”
“The Sultan therefore, whose feeble hands now wield the falling sceptre of the Turkish empire, would probably grant with readiness that privilege, if not yet enjoyed by the Jews, and any other requisite to carry out colonizing Israelites in large numbers in Syria and Palestine. The case however will be widely different with the Christian powers of Europe, England not excepted, since they, would hardly tolerate an independent state composed of such active and intelligent men, as the Jewish nation could now furnish, to exist at the very outlet of the commerce of the Mediterranean sea and the Arabian Gulf; thus commanding the caravan trade to the South and North on the one side, and on the other the maritime commerce of the East and West, which would no doubt become of the highest importance between the Indies, Persia, Europe, and perhaps America, so soon as a safe channel could be established for steam ships from Bombay to Suez, connecting by means of a railroad with Alexandria in Northern Egypt, and drawing to that depot the business of the ports of Sidon, Tyre, Joppa, Acre, and the other sea-towns of ancient Phoenicia and Palestine, which, though now in ruins and scarcely inhabited, would soon teem again with a flourishing and wealthy population.”[4]
And, of course, in 1876 George Eliot wrote “Daniel Deronda” to further propagate Zionism.
That most Jews aren’t from Palestine but rather Khazaria is a matter for a later letter…
